All Facebook image dimensions — profile, cover, posts, ads, events, groups — with exact pixels and aspect ratios.
Facebook displays images differently across mobile and desktop. Using the recommended dimensions prevents compression and cropping on all devices.

Facebook cover photos are the most commonly mishandled image format. The same image is cropped differently on desktop (820×312 px) and mobile (640×360 px). For best results, design on a 820×360 px canvas and keep all key elements — text, logos, faces — within the central 640×312 px safe area. The outer edges may be cropped on some views.
Facebook's algorithm favors images with good engagement. Square (1:1) images at 1080×1080 px perform well on mobile because they take up more vertical feed space. Landscape images at 1200×630 px suit link previews and article shares. The shared link thumbnail pulls directly from your page's Open Graph tags — use 1200×630 px for og:image.
Facebook and Instagram ads historically penalized images with more than 20% text coverage by limiting ad reach. While Facebook removed the strict 20% rule in 2021, excessive text in ad images still negatively affects delivery and performance. Keep text minimal, legible, and focused on a single message.
Facebook Stories display at 1080×1920 px (9:16). The top ~250 px shows the profile picture and name; the bottom ~250 px shows engagement buttons. Keep your primary message within the center 1080×1420 px safe zone. Use bright colors and large, readable text — users swipe quickly through stories.
When someone shares a link from your website on Facebook, the preview image comes from the og:image meta tag. Use 1200×630 px (1.91:1) for the widest compatibility. Images smaller than 600×315 px may not appear as large previews. Always include og:image, og:title, and og:description tags on your pages.
